My Go-To Book Recommendations
Most self-help books are trash.
Okay, that’s harsh, but I just hate that there are so many that give the whole genre a bad rap. Yes, a lot of them are about as valuable as listening to a half-drunk friend of a friend ramble on about their personal epiphanies, but there are true diamonds in the rough. The books here have a psychologist’s stamp of approval so you can have confidence in them.
ADHD/ADD: Taking Charge of Adult ADHD (Barkley)
Anger management: When Anger Hurts (McKay, Rogers, & McKay)
Dating: Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How It Can Help You Find - and Keep - Love (Levine & Heller)
Relationships: The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work (Gottman & Silver); Hold Me Tight (Johnson)
Shame: I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t): Making The Journey from “What Will People Think?” to “I Am Enough” (Brown) (or, if you prefer audiobooks, The Power of Vulnerability on Audible)
The Fourth Trimester: The Happiest Baby on the Block (Karp); The No-Cry Sleep Solution (Pantley); Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child (Weissbluth)
Great but Tougher to Categorize: Becoming The Kind Father (Sandborn)
